Easy Peasy Pear Pastries

If I said you could have fresh fancy-ass looking pastries in 35 minutes on a Saturday morning without leaving your house, would you believe me? It’s truth. I promise. Now to be fair, I cheat and use store-bought frozen puff pastry but there are just some ingredients worth cheating for. I love frozen puff pastry and I always have it on hand in my freezer for easy morning pastries.

Any fruit would be delicious on this pastry. I just happened to have two overripe pears on hand when I created this recipe so I went with the flow. Plus, as I write this recipe, it is wintertime which means pears are my current vibe. These pastries would be delicious with or without the icing so you do you based on your sweetness preference. Enjoy inhaling these! I sure did.

Ingredients

Pastries

  • 1 package frozen puff pastry thawed according to package directions
  • 2 small ripe pears
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1-2 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup raw sugar or brown sugar

Icing

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400F.
  • Unfold the puff pastry and cut the large pastry square into 9 equal small squares by cutting it into thirds, rotating the pastry 90 degrees and cutting it into thirds again.
  • Place the pastry squares on a baking tray leaving about ½ inch space between the squares.
  • Slice each pear in half and core. Then, slice each half of the pear thinly.
  • Place 3-4 slices of pear onto each pastry square, leaving at least ¼ inch of bare pastry around the edges (kind of like you’re topping a pizza and leaving room for the crust).
  • Place the egg yolk in a small bowl and add 1 tsp water. Mix until combined.
  • Using a pastry brush, brush the egg yolk over the entire pastry, including the pears.
  • Sprinkle each pastry with a pinch or two of cinnamon and then evenly sprinkle the raw sugar over the pastries.
  • Bake the pastries for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffy.
  • Remove from the oven and set aside to cool while you make your icing.
  • While the pastries are cooling, mix the icing ingredients together until combined.
  • Once the pastries have cooled slightly (they are so delicious warm so I encourage you to eat them soon), drizzle with the icing and eat them all. Like I did.
