Ham, cheese and egg breakfast sandwiches are a simple yet satisfying meal that can be made in minutes. The combination of flavours from the salty ham, melty cheese and cooked egg, all nestled between a bun, creates a delicious and comforting breakfast. When I’m craving a quick breakfast sammie, I make this one.
American Cheese.
I am going to be straight with you. I mostly hate American cheese. In my humble opinion it’s a bit of an abomination – let’s be real, it’s plastic cheese. But that being said, I always have some in my fridge for the only two appropriate (and mandatory) times to eat American cheese. On juicy cheeseburgers, and on greasy breakfast sandwiches.
My favourite American cheese is the Kraft Extra Cheddar Slices. The flavour is better than the original Kraft Singles and the slices are nice and thick. And thicker is better. Wink.
Ham & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- several slices deli ham
- 1 slice American cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 1 bun or 2 slices of bread
Instructions
- Warm a skillet over medium heat and when hot, drizzle in the olive oil.
- Add the slices of ham and brown for a couple minutes on each side.
- Turn the heat down to medium-low and set the ham to the side. Scramble the egg in a small bowl and then add to the skillet. Swirl the skillet to make sure the egg is in a thin layer.
- Top the egg with the slice of cheese. With a spatula, move the egg around and over the cheese and flip to cook the egg all over.
- Take the skillet off the heat and pop your sliced bun into the toaster.
- Once your bun is toasted, use a spatula to place the cheesy egg on the bun, top with the ham and then the bread.
- Share with your cat.
