Well, aren’t you just the perfect little snack? Or breakfast. Or healthy dessert. I love keeping a container of my Chocolate Hazelnut Energy Balls in the fridge for whenever the mood (or craving) strikes. Energy balls are the perfect grab-and-go guilt free treat for whenever and wherever.

I hope I don’t lose any friends over this… but peanut butter is not my favourite thing in the world. Don’t get me wrong, I like it on toast every once in awhile and I would never turn down a peanut butter cookie but it’s just not my jam (haha get it… because peanut butter and jam…). As it so happens, the hubs is even less of a peanut butter fan so needless to say, it doesn’t get used much in this household. Now, chocolate hazelnut spread on the other hand… that shit goes in our cappuccinos every morning. I have a Costco amount of that stuff on hand at all times. So I thought, why the heck not make some energy balls! And here we are.

We can do whatever you like.

As with many of my recipes, I like to offer the ability to mix and match ingredients so that you can shape the recipe to your personal tastes. You can absolutely switch up any of the nut butters or mix-ins in this recipe. Peanut butter friends can be happy. Cashew butter friends can be happy. If you’re like, “I don’t like dried fruit, Alana”, then go right ahead and replace the fruit with more nuts. Any nut variety you enjoy is welcome to the party.

Pro tip: Make a double batch and keep them in the freezer. You now have have a perfect little energy bite at your disposal when you are in a rushy rush.

Chocolate Hazelnut Energy Balls

Energy balls are the perfect little snack to get you through the day. These energy balls are chock full of good stuff like flax, chia and oats and are just sweet enough. I pass one to the hubs when he's having a sweets craving and it completely satisfies him without the guilt factor. Best of both worlds! Feel free to play around with the recipe – if you hate chocolate hazelnut spread, use peanut butter. If you prefer peanuts, throw 'em in and omit the hazelnuts. The world is your oyster.
